We had over 120 CBRE employees support this year’s BuildDay, both from the local offices and Women’s Networking Forum participants from across the country.
Volunteers worked on projects at the Sylvia Family Shelter in Chicago’s Northside neighborhood. The shelter, which is part of the Cornerstone Community Outreach nonprofit, supports families of all types, offering shelter and services to mothers with children, as well as fathers, and families with teens. Sylvia Family Shelter serves more than 130 single-parent, two-parent and intergenerational families. It is also one of the few homeless shelters in Chicago that allows fathers to remain with their children.
In partnership with Rebuilding Together, the following projects were completed:
- Demo and reconfiguration of a private file storage area for the management team.
- Painting and cleaning of multiple floors, including shower rooms and restrooms.
- Purging of large and heavy appliances and bed frames which will raise funds for Cornerstone Community Outreach through metal recycling.
- Sorting several hundred pounds of donated clothing, shoes and housewares for the Free Store that is open to Cornerstone Community Outreach residents and the community.
With industry partner support, we’ll also be providing and installing new office and common area furniture (especially improving the teen area and computer lab, but also staff offices), deep clean of the kitchen, cafeteria and bathrooms, shredding services for a cleanup of outdated documentation, electrical upgrades, and more.
The combination of CBRE Cares, Rebuilding Together and our employee volunteers makes such a huge difference to community organizations that are often underfunded. We thank all of our partners, the planning committee and volunteers for your commitment to the community.
